What has now become an iconic open-air summer festival for the city, the Hamilton Gardens Arts Festival combines a plethora of visual arts, music, comedy, film, theatre, literature and dance, offering something for all ages and tastes.
The festival is the perfect way to prolong the summer holiday spirit and enjoy entertainment, art and culture in a fantastic outdoor environment. A range of art will be showcased during the festival, with exhibitions including ‘Rembrandt Remastered, the ‘New Zealand Painting and Printmaking Awards and more.
Over 20 bands and artists will perform in the gardens over the massive two-week event. With everything from Jazz, Rock, Broadway and Pop, there is something to please every festival-goer. Backyard Beats will be a big night featuring big names such as Tomorrow People, L.A.B and The Black Seeds.
Other highlights include David Helfgott, Mel Parsons, Modern Maori Quartet and more.
The popular ‘Movies’ event will be back, featuring some of the most iconic films from yesteryear, including the all-time favourite “Rocky Horror Picture Show”. Written by Hamiltonian Richard O’Brien, the film holds a special relevance for the city. Theatre performances will appeal to both young and old with plays ranging from wildly entertaining comedies to stories of promiscuity.
Family events include Tales by the River, the all-time favourite Teddy Bears Picnic, the Pied Piper and many more.
This year the Hamilton Gardens Arts Festival will also include the new Feast Waikato event. A foodie paradise on the Rhododendron Lawn showcasing the best of local flavours, this special event will include live music, demonstrations, tastings and event more foodie delights.
