A snapshot of the international visitor spend for the year end March 2016, visitor arrivals for the year end April 2016 and tourism forecasts for 2016-2022.

Spend up 25%

International visitor spend passed an estimated $10 billion for the first time in the year ending March 2016. Total spend grew by 25% in the YE March, with growth across all major markets, including the USA +46%, China +41% and Australia +15%. Read more.

Arrivals up 10%

New Zealand received 3,274,182 international visitor arrivals in the year ending April 2016, up 10.6% on the previous year. The biggest changes in arrivals were from China +29%, Australia +6.8% and the USA +10.6%. Read more.

New tourism forecasts

The Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment’s new tourism forecasts for 2016-2022 expect visitor arrivals to grow 5.4% a year, reaching 4.5 million visitors in 2022. Total international spend is expected to reach $16 billion in 2022, up 65.5% from 2015. Read more.
