Proposed Maritime NZ fee & levy increases

TIA says proposed increases in Maritime New Zealand (MNZ) levies and fees are targeting the tourism sector unjustifiably, to subsidise the fees of other maritime operators. In TIA's submission on MNZ’s 2016-19 review of fees and levies, TIA is calling for a number of changes to the proposed increases.

Rafting rule change

TIA Advocacy Manager Steve Hanrahan attended a New Zealand Rivers Association (NZRA) meeting, to discuss the contentious proposal to disestablish Maritime Rule 81 with MNZ and WorkSafe. The proposal would transition rafting operators from being audited by MNZ into the adventure activities regime that is administered by WorkSafe. The submission process has been extended until March after earlier feedback from TIA and NZRA that a January deadline was impractical for the sector. Please email Steve if you wish to discuss the proposal to disestablish Maritime Rule 81.
