The Argentinian rugby team (Los Pumas) will receive a traditional Maaori whakatau and “Kiwiana” welcome at Civic Square in Hamilton when they arrive into the city tomorrow.
The Council-hosted event, from 3.30pm Thursday 8 September, will give the visitors a unique taste of New Zealand life and culture. Traditional Argentinian food will also be available to purchase.
New Zealand enjoys a friendly and supportive relationship with Argentina and it’s an opportunity for the city to welcome the team and the Argentinian Ambassador to “our place”.
The Council is encouraging all fans to get dressed up and come down to Civic Square and welcome the team. With plenty of opportunities for fans to get up close to the players with autograph signings and photo opportunities planned.
The Argentinean supporters are known for their passion and there will be plenty of singing, chanting and good humoured banter in the build-up to the rugby game, creating a great family friendly atmosphere in the city.
Those wishing to welcome the Los Pumas are encouraged to come down early and take in the atmosphere.
