Welcome to ‘The Metcalfes’. We are a conference centre based in Huntly, conveniently located halfway between Auckland and Hamilton. As well as picturesque views and acres of gardens, we also offer accommodation and guided team building activities, such as archery, paintball, orienteering and claybird shooting.

If you want your team or clients to feel like they have left the office, then you are in luck! The Metcalfes conference centre sits snugly into the hillside on a ridge displaying expansive views and surrounded by native bush, alive with birdsong.


We have 2 conference rooms available – one that seats 12 and the other that seats up to 80.

Our rooms have the latest mod cons, but guests are often drawn outside as the conference hire includes use of the 12 metre swimming pool, garden walks, petanque and mini golf. Our delicious meals are accompanied by home-made chutneys and preserves, using fruits, herbs and veggies grown onsite. Free Wi-Fi is available.

Cocktail Functions

If you are looking for a venue to ‘wow’ your clients or launch an amazing new product, just call us to discuss your needs. We can accommodate up to 160 guests, providing activities, canapés/meal and beverages as required. We are licensed to sell alcohol and require that groups use our bar facilities.


Our accommodation is great value. We offer 10 rooms (with 13 beds), all within a stones throw of the conference facilities. Most rooms have their own ensuite, but some share a bathroom. All rooms are $100+GST per night, which includes a continental breakfast. A cooked breakfast can be added for $18 +GST p.p.

Team Building

One of the reasons our guests keep coming back is the range of activities we offer on-site. Test your aim with archery, claybird, paintball target and air rifle shooting. Or unite your team with our orienteering, ‘marshmallow gun’ building or pizza making challenges. These can be undertaken at extra cost or as part of a package.

All shooting activities take place with the latest equipment and are reached via all weather walkways and platforms.

Each of the activities are judged and winners announced. If you wish, the Metcalfes’ specially designed Award Certificates can be presented. These can also be tailored for specific industry or team events.

Conferences include use of the 12 metre swimming pool, garden walks, petanque, and mini golf. The outdoor games, including giant connect four, giant Jenga, pickup sticks, volleyball net, and horseshoes, can be put out on request.

Our conference room, for up to 80 persons (seated), has:

  • 106 inch projection screen with ceiling mounted data projector and in floor link for power/computer
  • 46 inch LCD TV with SKY and an indoor/outdoor sound system (DVD, CD, radio)
  • Electronic whiteboard with USB port connection
  • In-room kitchenette with fridge, continuous access to tea, plunger coffee and iced water
  • Wireless Internet capability
  • Air conditioning
  • Good natural light and fluorescents as well as light blocking blinds

  • Distance from ‘The Metcalfes’ to Huntly Township: 12.8km, approx 15 minutes driving
  • Huntly to Auckland CBD: 100km- about 80 minutes driving
  • Huntly to Hamilton CBD: 45km- about 35 minutes driving
