10 July 17: Waikato to star in Air New Zealand’s next safety video

The Waikato region is set to feature in Air New Zealand’s latest safety video which will be released later this week.

A production team of 25, Air New Zealand cabin crew and local cavers filmed the seat belt messaging scenes for the video at Waitomo Caves.

Air New Zealand General Manager of Global Brand and Content Marketing Jodi Williams says while she can’t give too much away at this stage, the video will feature a number of New Zealand cities and regions – including Waikato, Wellington, Taranaki, Gisborne and Otago.

“Following the success of our last safety video Summer of Safety which was shot in Northland and has had more than 7.6 million views, we wanted to showcase more of our country’s cities and regions in our next safety video installment to help encourage visitation to those areas and drive economic benefit.”

“Our safety videos have earned a global reputation so it’ll be great to have eyes from around the world on more of our stunning landscapes and attractions, including the popular Waitomo Caves in Waikato.”

Hamilton and Waikato Tourism CEO Jason Dawson says having Waikato featured in an Air New Zealand safety video is a fantastic way to showcase the region on the global stage and will help inspire more travellers to visit this part of the country.

“Highlighting one of our region’s iconic attractions like Waitomo Caves, reinforces they are a ‘must-do’ on international travellers’ itineraries when visiting New Zealand.”

“International visitor guest nights continue to increase for the region and this safety video will no doubt further enhance this trend. It will encourage visitors to explore more of the Waikato – whether it be underground or above-the-ground at our other amazing attractions and natural wonders – and deliver additional economic benefits for our community.”

The new safety video will be launched on Air New Zealand’s social channels and rolled out across the airline’s fleet from Wednesday morning.

The airline’s safety videos have collectively generated more than 108 million views online to date along with significant international media exposure including the likes of CNN, BBC and the Daily Mail.
