SkyCity’s general manager Michelle Baillie was awarded the CEO of the Year award, while Hobbiton Movie Set’s chief operating officer Kirsten Madill was awarded the Emerging Leader of the Year award at the event held at Claudelands Events Centre on Friday night.
The CEO of the Year award is based around someone who demonstrates exemplary leadership and entrants are evaluated on criteria that includes the performance of the company that they lead, the extent to which they have contributed to the company’s performance, overall leadership qualities, and the esteem in which they are held by peers.
The Emerging Leader of the Year award recognises emerging leaders, who have significantly contributed to an organisation.
Hamilton & Waikato chief executive Jason Dawson said the awards were great for Michelle, Kirsten and the region’s tourism industry, with the recognition very well deserved for both women.
“Both Michelle and Kirsten work very hard within their organisations and for the region. We have an amazing team of inspiring tourism leaders in the Waikato region, including Michelle and Kirsten who are both strategic thinkers and smart operators. It comes as no surprise to me that they have won awards for their work, and it’s fantastic to see this high-level recognition from the wider business sector.”
