Grown at Waikato’s Zealong Tea Estate, the country’s only commercial tea estate, Zealong Green tea was judged by panel of international tea experts, alongside more than 140 teas from 16 different countries.

“That all the teas were blind-tasted confirms the high caliber of tea grown in New Zealand,” said Zealong GM Gigi Crawford.

“We are thrilled that we were able to follow on last year’s GTC success, and show the world once again that tea from New Zealand can compete on the same level as teas from traditional regions.”

Zealong Tea Estate is 100% organic certified, with full estate traceability from farm to cup. Coupled with the tea’s unique ‘terroir’, resulting in excellent aroma and taste, Crawford believes this is what gave Zealong teas an edge over other countries’ entries in both this and last years’ competitions.

In 2017, Zealong Tea Estate entered three of their teas into the GTC ahead of the World Tea Expo. All three topped their categories, with Zealong Black earning a People’s Tea Choice at the expo in Las Vegas.

With this year’s win, Zealong Green will once again appear in the October 2018 Global Tea Buyers’ Guide, a digital publication distributed to the international tea community and vertical markets. [ENDS]
Zealong Green won the Silver medal in the Pan-Fired Green category in the 2018 Global Tea Championships Spring Hot (Loose Leaf) competition. There was no Gold medal awarded.
