Meander alongside the Waikato River or get the pulse racing climbing to an inspirational mountain top view. There is everything from gentle jaunts on well laid out tracks to more ambitious hikes including overnight hut stays – and it’s all easily accessible.
Popular trails include the Blue Spring near Putaruru, with water so pure it supplies over 70% of NZ’s bottled water; Marokopa Falls near Waitomo, described as the most beautiful falls in NZ; The Hakarimata Summit track, popular for the challenging stair climb, plus many many more.

The region is heaven for cyclists, whether on or off road.
