Watch world class river rowing action as elite crews battle it out for supremacy over the gruelling 4.2km upstream course through central Hamilton on the Waikato River in The Gallagher Great Race on Sunday 14th September.
Held annually, the Gallagher Great Race pits home town favourites from Waikato University against teams from a world-class international university (previously Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard and Washington Universities) in action-packed races on New Zealand’s longest river – the Waikato River.
This year will see reigning men’s champions from the University of Waikato defending their title against crews from Harvard University and Melbourne University, while the women’s race will see Waikato University coming up against Washington University and Melbourne University.
The Gallagher Great Race festival also includes free family fun and entertainment throughout the day including street theatre, food and drink, competitions, and more. The day culminates in the two finals – the women’s crews racing for the Bryan Gould Cup and the men’s crews racing in the actual “Great Race” for the coveted Harry Mahon Trophy.
